Are you as excited about Lifetime’s Janet Jackson documentary as I am? I’ve been streaming Janet’s music nonstop for the past few months.

I came up with the perfect drink to sip on as you watch. Made with gin, jasmine tea, fresh grapefruit and lemon juices, and agave nectar, my Empress Punch is the perfect way to celebrate the Empress of Pop.

The base spirit for this cocktail is a gin — a distilled spirit made with juniper berries and other botanicals. Gin is one of the most complex and diverse spirits around. For that reason, it pairs perfectly with the sweet and fragrant jasmine tea.

The jasmine tea I used for this cocktail is a green tea infused with jasmine flower blossoms. Combined with nutrient rich grapefruit juice, this drink is full of vitamins and antioxidants. Fresh lemon juice is added to help brighten the drink up and balance out the bitterness from the tea and grapefruit juice.

In terms of a sweetener, I opted for agave nectar as it has a more neutral flavor. But other sweeteners such as honey or simple syrup would work fine as well.

This drink is served in a highball glass. A grapefruit wedge is an optional garnish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 750 ml. gin

  • 1.5 cups jasmine tea, chilled

  • 1.5 cups fresh grapefruit juice

  • 3/4 cup fresh lemon juice

  • 3/4 cup agave nectar

  • Optional: club soda

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add all ingredients to a pitcher or punch bowl and stir

  2. Strain into highball glasses filled with ice

  3. Garnish with grapefruit wedges

  4. Enjoy
