Happy Holidays! While I can’t spend the holidays with family this year, I’m celebrating with one of my favorite drinks instead: my Candy Cane Cosmo.

What I love most about the Candy Cane Cosmo is that you get that delicious peppermint flavor without any artificial ingredients. My secret ingredient? Peppermint tea! By brewing peppermint tea and making a syrup with it, you’re able to create a rich and sweet peppermint flavor that helps to balance out the tartness from the pomegranate juice and the bitterness from the fresh lime juice.

Sticking with the traditional recipe of a classic Cosmopolitan, I used citrus vodka. This helps to balance out our cocktail by providing a nice crisp and refreshing taste. If you don’t have citrus vodka on hand, regular vodka is just fine. This is the perfect cocktail to sip on as you unwrap presents and finish cooking Christmas dinner.

This drink is served in a martini or coupe glass. A candy cane or lime wheel is an optional garnish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 oz. citrus vodka

  • 1/2 oz. peppermint tea syrup

  • 1/2 oz. pomegranate juice

  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice

INSTRUCTIONS

Preparing the peppermint tea syrup:

  1. Prepare peppermint tea syrup by adding two peppermint tea bags to one cup of hot water

  2. Let steep for 10 minutes

  3. Remove tea bags and add tea to a small saucepan with 1 cup of sugar

  4. Bring to a low boil and let simmer on low heat for 10 minutes

  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely before use

  6. Once cooled strain into a clean glass container for later use

Preparing the cocktail

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker

  2. Shake for 20 seconds or until shaker is frosty on the outside

  3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass

  4. Serve
