Thy Cup Runneth Over
ABOUT
2020 has definitely been a sh*tshow. Excuse the language, but you know it’s true. However, outside of the pandemic and a crazy Presidential election, this year has definitely presented me with a lot of opportunities: I entered and competed in my first bartending competition; I’ve been able to continue to grow my business; and I’ve connected with some amazing people in the industry.
But most of all, I’ve learned how to be more grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded: no matter how big or small. I’ve come to appreciate the small wins that later lead to the larger victories. And I’ve been more intentional on living in the present and to appreciate the process. This cocktail, Thy Cup Runneth Over, represents all of this and more. Cheers to seeing the glass half full, or better yet runneth over! Serve with Geo’s Bacon-Wrapped Wheat Crackers and Baked Brie with Berries and Walnuts.
This simple three ingredient cocktail is the perfect way to kick off your Thanksgiving. You can enjoy it with your appetizers or make it as you are preparing dinner. It pairs perfectly with Geo’s
The most work you’ll have to do with this cocktail is to create the fig syrup. This can be prepared a week in advance. Figs, the first cultivated fruit, are also known as the fruit of heaven. For this recipe, I made the fig syrup with Calimyrna figs. With their sweet, delicate, and nutty flavor, they pair perfectly with the Black Walnut bitters’ cola, dark chocolate, and amaro like notes.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be a celebration without sparkling wine. I used Champagne, but you can use any sparkling wine of your choice. My go-to Champagne is always Veuve Clicquot (Verv Kli-koh) Yellow Label Brut. Besides it’s strikingly beautiful golden label, Veuve Clicquot is full of ripe fruits and honey with a nice sweet and lasting finish.
This drink is served in a Champagne flute. You can garnish the drink with an orange twist.
