Maker’s Maple Brown Old Fashioned

ABOUT

This spin on the best-selling cocktail in the world is right on time for the winter season.

The old fashioned is a timeless classic. This isn’t just our opinion, it’s a fact. For the fourth year in a row, the old fashioned has been the number one drink in nearly 30% of the world's best bars. We decided to take a more seasonal approach to this drink.

The base spirit for this cocktail is our favorite bourbon — Maker’s Mark. Like all bourbons, Maker’s Mark is made with at least 51% corn and other cereal grains. What sets Maker’s apart is that it uses soft, red winter wheat to create a sweet, full-flavored spirit.

We switched out the sugar cube for a homemade maple brown sugar syrup consisting of one part maple syrup to two parts brown sugar syrup. Recipe can be found here. This syrup pairs well with Maker’s caramel, vanilla and oak notes. 3 dashes of Angostura bitters are added to balance this cocktail’s flavor and to add some color.

This cocktail is best served on the rocks. An orange peel garnish is optional.
